Resumption of School Activities: More Students and Parents Observed in the Streets

Monday, October 6, 2025, marks the return of students to classrooms for many this year. In Petion Ville and Delmas, the observation was different from last week: more students and parents were in the streets and also in schools. Indeed, during a tour conducted by our editorial team in different areas, many more children and young people were observed in tap-taps, wearing uniforms and heading towards their schools. “I am very happy to return to school this morning. I was eagerly awaiting this opportunity,” a 13-year-old student told us. He said he hopes the situation changes in Haiti so that the 2025-2026 academic year can be successfully completed. In schools, benches are still empty We also visited some establishments in Delmas. Not all classrooms are full as usual. Directors informed us that “40% of students have not yet arrived.”
“For this new day, we welcomed more students. However, many are conspicuous by their absence,” a director told us. According to school officials, the economic situation of parents is the cause. They inform us that several students do not yet have their report cards, which are still with the administrations. Others are counting on next week. It should be noted that the Haitian government announced support for parents for the 2025-2026 academic year. To date, some mothers are still waiting.
