International Community Reportedly Opting for a Post-CPT Plan

PORT-AU-PRINCE.— The issue of security and the future of the political transition in Haiti were at the heart of an important meeting held on Tuesday, October 11, 2025, between the country's main international partners. Organized by the Roadmap Coordination Group for Haiti, this meeting brought together representatives of the Organization of American States (OAS), the United Nations, the CARICOM Group of Eminent Persons, the United States, as well as Haitian authorities. According to OAS Secretary-General Albert Ramdin, who reported on the discussions on network X (formerly Twitter), the talks focused on progress made in security, governance, and electoral preparations. «The exchanges highlighted the urgency of coordinated regional and international action to strengthen security and support the Multinational Gang Repression Force authorized by the UN Security Council,» he stated. The diplomat reiterated that the restoration of security remains the sine qua non condition for a return to legitimate governance and credible elections. The OAS, he added, remains ready to mobilize financial and technical support for Haitian institutions, particularly for organizing the ballot and implementing the national identity card project. The Institutional Future After the CPT's Mandate Also at the heart of the discussions was the question of the country's institutional future after February 2026, the scheduled end date for the mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT). «The meeting emphasized the importance of sustained coordination, information sharing, and the search for national consensus to define the path forward after the CPT,» Mr. Ramdin declared. International partners insist on the need for inclusive consultation among Haitian political actors to prepare the ground for free, transparent, and credible elections. They call for anticipating the post-CPT transition to avoid any institutional vacuum likely to worsen the political and security crisis. This meeting is part of a dynamic of increased diplomatic pressure on Haitian authorities and their transition partners. While the security situation remains precarious, donors and regional organizations fear a loss of political continuity at the end of the CPT's mandate. By reaffirming their commitment to support Haiti, international representatives seek to maintain regional mobilization around a dual objective: restoring security and ensuring institutional continuity by the time elections are held in 2026.
