Haiti–Education: Professor Job Silvert Defends Thesis in Haitian Creole, MENFP Commends His Audacity

PORT-AU-PRINCE.— The Center for Fundamental School Training (CFEF), an institution under the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), expressed its pride following the successful defense of Professor Job Silvert's thesis, an English teacher at CFEF and a former student of the institution. The thesis, written and defended entirely in Haitian Creole, is titled «Traductology of Haitian Creole as a Target Language: Study on the Theoretical Foundations of Translators' Work for a Didactics of Haitian Creole Translation, from 2015 to 2025». It was awarded the distinction 'Très bien' (Very Good). The defense took place at Cornerstone Christian University, before a jury chaired by Dr. Saint Yves Romélus. This university, founded in 1999 in the United States, is present in about forty countries. Exceptional Research on Haitian Creole In a public statement, the CFEF management, on behalf of the MENFP, highlighted the exceptional nature of this doctoral research, which was both conducted in Creole and dedicated to Haitian Creole. The study thoroughly analyzes the practices of translators and proposes solid theoretical foundations for the development of translation didactics in Creole. According to the CFEF, this academic work constitutes a major contribution to the promotion of Haitian Creole in the fields of scientific research, higher education, and specialized translation. An Academic Journey Marked by Commitment The institution's management considers this thesis a symbol of perseverance, rigor, and academic excellence, and a source of inspiration for teachers, administrative staff, and students. Job Silvert has been teaching foreign languages and Haitian Creole since 2017. He has been a professor of English didactics at CFEF since 2021. He also serves as a supervisor and jury member at Cornerstone Christian University. Since 2023, he has been a professor of Creole at the Faculty of Human Sciences (FASCH) of the State University of Haiti (UEH) and teaches translation at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics (FLA) of the UEH.
