World Day of Social Justice: The Kay Jèn Organization Calls for a National Awakening

PORT-AU-PRINCE.— On the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice, celebrated every February 20 under the auspices of the United Nations, the Kay Jèn Organization published a press statement in which it reaffirms its commitment to a more just, more equitable, and more united Haiti. In a context marked by a multidimensional crisis, the organization paints an alarming picture: 51% of the Haitian population is reportedly living in a situation of acute food insecurity. “Families are hungry. Young people have neither jobs nor a future. Popular neighborhoods and rural areas are abandoned,” emphasizes the document, which also denounces unequal access to education, healthcare, housing, and credit, described as a privilege reserved for a minority. For Kay Jèn, this reality is not inevitable, but the result of “unjust political choices” and a socioeconomic system that excludes the most vulnerable. The organization believes that persistent insecurity, the rise of gangs, political instability, and the loss of control over certain territories are the direct consequences of this structural social injustice. Faced with this situation, the organization calls on national authorities, economic actors, and technical and financial partners to make equal opportunities a national priority. It specifically demands:
Free and accessible education for all;
A real and uncompromising fight against corruption;
Economic policies that create jobs for young people;
Sustained investments in agriculture and small and medium-sized enterprises;
Equitable access to healthcare and decent housing. “Social justice is a matter of dignity. It constitutes an essential pillar of sustainable development and national stability,” the organization reminds, believing that concerted and responsible action is necessary to build a more inclusive society.
